Saratoga cocktail

Possibly the birthplace of the Club Sandwich.  It has a racecourse and a flag with a slightly terrifying seal.  OK, that's the three things that we know about Saratoga Springs, NY.

The Saratoga cocktail is Old School - dating back to the 1880s in Saratoga Springs, when it was the centre of the good time, racing and gambling world.

Ingredients

22 ml cognac

22 ml rye

22 ml sweet vermouth

2 dashes orange bitters

A lemon twist

Method

Place all the liquid ingredients into a mixing glass and stir over ice for 25 seconds.

Double strain into a coupette and garnish with the lemon twist.

Place a bet that you won't find a better cocktail tonight.
