How to get through Lockdown v3.0 Tuxedo cocktail
Thank you to everyone who has got in touch via our email. You've told us that you want to hear about cocktails at the weekend and other drinks during the week. OK, we'll see what we can do!
So, here is the Tuxedo cocktail. Never heard of it? No worries, nor have lots of people. Fundamentally, we believe it tastes like a supreme union of a perfect martini and a Manhattan.
We tasted this first in New York City but spent the between 16.00 and 18.00 last Saturday making and drinking these as the freezing rain poured down outside. It's rather aromatic but wonderfully moreish. And, spirit-forward as it is, it kept us warm in the cold afternoon as the weak winter sun disappeared.
Ingredients
1 dash absinthe
1 dash maraschino
2 dashes orange bitters
45 ml dry vermouth
60 ml London dry gin
Lemon twist
Maraschino cherry
Method
Chill a coupe.
Put the dash of absinthe into the glass and roll it around to coat the inside of the coupe. Discard any extra absinthe.
Stir all the other ingredients over ice for 25 seconds. Double strain into the chilled glass.
Drop in a maraschino cherry. Express a lemon twist over the surface of the drink and drop it in.
Enjoy the combination of lemon, orange and cherry - and the warming hit of the gin in the background - while preferably lighting a fire to keep warm!
