How to get through Lockdown v3.0: Delmonico cocktail
Congratulations, everyone - we've made it to over half the way through January!
It doesn't usually feel like we have to celebrate a fortnight passing but given the ongoing lockdown here in the UK and weirdnesses going on in the rest of the world, like recent events in Washington DC, it does feel like we need some cheer in our lives.
So, today we're drinking a Delmonico. It's a classic cocktail with some great history but the reason we're drinking it today is that it is a cocktail that reminds us of spring with its bright aromas of orange.
Ingredients
60 ml London dry gin
15 ml VSOP cognac
15 ml dry vermouth
15 ml sweet vermouth
2 dashes orange bitters
Method
Chill a coupe or martini glass.
Stir the ingredients over ice for 25 seconds. Double strain into the chilled glass.
Express an orange twist over the surface of the drink and drop it in.
Sip it and try as hard as you can not to think of spring scenes, such as jacaranda trees and orange blossom on a warm day. We bet you can't not.
