How to get through Lockdown v3.0: Gordon cocktail
We promise we will get onto another wine and likely a Belgian ale but we've been asked to provide another version of a martini to help one of our readers through lockdown. We love engaging with you - get in touch through Twitter or email - and we're only too happy to oblige!
The Gordon cocktail is not very well known by most people, or indeed, most bars. We suspect that this is most likely due to the fact that most people interested in cocktails will have a bottle of gin in the cupboard but far fewer will have an open bottle of amontillado in the fridge.
That said, this is a cocktail which you should know. It is a pale in colour but its flavours hint at something of the dark. We find that it deserves respect and in return it offers you a reflective calm. We consider it a form of meditation in a glass.
Ingredients
60 ml London dry gin
15 ml amontillado sherry
Method
Chill a coupe or martini glass.
Stir over ice for 25 seconds. Double strain into the chilled glass.
Express a lemon twist over the surface of the drink and drop it in.
Breathe in and out deeply three times before taking your first sip. Sip. And relax.
