Christmas drinks #03: clementine martini

Three's a charm, right?  Possibly, with this light-tasting, supremely moreish sparkling cocktail made with Christmas clementines.

If you're a purist, please don't worry; you're amongst friends!  We know it's not technically a martini.  If you need to check our creds, have a look at our first cocktail recipe.  And then relax; get comfortable with the use of sparkling wine. . .

This is great as a single cocktail, even better as a cocktail made for multiple people at a party.  It's really easy to multiply up the quantities and you can make a jug of the juice + alcohol in advance, so that it's easy to serve to people turning up at different moments.

Little hassle, lots of pleasure.  Not a bad way to welcome people in to a party in our book!

Ingredients

2/3 clementine , plus slice of clementine for serving

10ml vodka

10ml Cointreau

75ml Cava or Champagne, well chilled

Method

Put a martini glass (or champagne flute) into the freezer.

Mix the clementine juice, vodka and Cointreau in a glass over ice.  You're just looking to cool it, not to dilute it, so stir for a maximum of ten seconds.

To serve, put a clementine slice into the frosted glass. Pour in the clementine vodka mixture, then open the bottle of fizz and top up the glass.
